Two veterans are set to collide when top-10 middleweight Brian Stann meets Italian striker Alessio Sakara on the main card of UFC on Fuel TV 2. UFC officials confirmed the bout on Thursday, which was originally reported by Swedish outlet mmanytt.se.
A former WEC light heavyweight champion, Stann (11-4) and his title aspirations were met with a grinding halt by the Chael Sonnen freight train at UFC 136. The loss snapped a three-fight win streak for the decorated 31-year-old that included impressive TKO wins over Chris Leben and Jorge Santiago, the latter of which won "Fight of the Night" honors.
Meanwhile, former professional boxer Sakara (15-8, 1 NC) also hopes to rebound after having his own three-fight win streak ended by a unanimous decision loss to Chris Weidman in March. Affectionately nicknamed "Legionarious," the 30-year-old sports a 6-5 record over his seven year stint with the UFC, but has been sidelined since mid-2011 with a torn ACL.
The UFC's debut trip to Sweden, UFC on Fuel TV 2, is scheduled for April 14th, 2012 at Stockholm's Ericsson Globe Arena. A main event has yet to be announced.
