Heavyweight Pat Barry (7-4, 4-4 UFC), a former K-1 kickboxer, has struggled with his submission defense in his MMA career, but against Christian Morecraft (7-3, 1-3 UFC) his technique was impeccable. Barry survived two serious submission threats against Morecraft before blasting him on the feet for the stoppage.
Morecraft caught a leg kick to take Barry down early in the fight. He quickly got the mounted position, but Barry just as quickly bucked him off. Once back on his feet, Barry quickly landed a scorching jab. Barry fended off one take down with a leg kick, but Morecraft kept driving and got him down with the next attempt.
Morecraft immediately attacked with an arm triangle choke but Barry fended it off. Morecraft next rolled to take Barry's arm and locked on a very deep arm bar. Barry knew what to do though and spun free to escape the hold and get back to his feet.
Barry wasted no time once he was back in striking range, slipping a punch and landing an atomic left hook that dropped Morecraft. A couple more shots on the ground and referee Herb Dean had to stop the fight. Look for Morecraft to be cut following his third loss in four UFC bouts.
