Less than a week from fight night, a pair of injuries has changed the landscape of UFC on FX 1.
Over the weekend, an undisclosed injury to UFC newcomer Ryan Jimmo (16-1) forced a preliminary bout with veteran light heavyweight Karlos Vemola (8-2) to be scratched from the card.
Additionally, Swedish-Iranian wrestling standout Reza Madadi (11-2) has pulled out of his UFC debut against Fabricio Camoes (13-6-1) due to an undisclosed injury. Camoes, himself an injury replacement for Rafaello Oliveira (14-5), will now fight Octagon newcomer Tommy Hayden (8-0). UFC officials confirmed the switch on Monday.
An undefeated lightweight out of Team Jorge Gurgel, Hayden fought his way onto "The Ultimate Fighter 9," but ultimately lost to Cameron Dollar in the season's elimination round. Since then the 25-year-old has continued to pad his record, last defeating Harry Johnson via first-round submission for his eighth stoppage win in eight contests.
A 33-year-old Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, Camoes returns to the UFC after blitzing through wins over Efrain Escudero and Steve Lopez under the Tachi Palace Fights banner. In his prior Octagon run, "Morango" fought to a majority draw against Caol Uno before receiving his walking papers after a rear-naked choke loss to Kurt Pellegrino in mid-2010.
UFC on FX 1 takes place on January 20, 2012 in Nashville, Tennessee. Volatile lightweight Melvin Guillard duels former number-one contender Jim Miller in the night's main event.
