The Ultimate Fighting Championship has its fourth trip to Georgia on the books.
Announced on this week's edition of UFC Tonight, the promotion is heading to Atlanta's Philips Arena for UFC 146 on April 21, 2012. The UFC last visited Atlanta in mid-2008, when Rashad Evans knocked out Chuck Liddell in the second-round of UFC 88's main event.
In addition, UFC officials are targeting a heavyweight contest between former heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez and Strikeforce standout Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva for April, according to reports from ESPN UK. Promotion officials have yet to confirm whether the bout will highlight UFC 146's fight card.
The 29-year-old Velasquez (9-1) hopes to rebound after suffering his first professional loss at the hands of Junior dos Santos at UFC on Fox 1. The 64-second setback marked the AKA product's return to competition following a 13-month layoff, and snapped a nine-fight win streak that included knockouts of Brock Lesnar, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, and Ben Rothwell.
Meanwhile, Brazilian veteran Silva (16-3) makes his UFC debut after tumbling out of the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix with a first-round knockout loss to Daniel Cormier in September. Prior to his misstep, the 32-year-old ripped through a three-fight win streak capped by a stunning TKO of former pound-for-pound great Fedor Emelianenko.
