Alexander Gustafsson asked for it, and he got it.
The fast-rising Swedish prospect was announced as the featured attraction for UFC's debut trip to Sweden, UFC on Fuel TV 2. Gustafsson will face Pride veteran Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in a light heavyweight battle during the night's main event.
UFC officials confirmed the match-up on Tuesday.
At just 24 years old, Gustafsson (13-1) has already run roughshod through the UFC's light heavyweight division to the tune of four straight stoppage wins, capped by a recent two-minute destruction of Vladimir Matyushenko at UFC 141. Following the victory, "The Mauler" expressed an immense desire to fight on the Swedish card.
"I really hope so," Gustafsson said. "That would be awesome. I can't wait for that one."
Though the youngster's path won't be easy, as a revitalized Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (20-5) now awaits him across the cage. The 35-year-old boxing savant recently rebounded from consecutive losses to Ryan Bader and Phil Davis to smash UFC legend Tito Ortiz in just three minutes at UFC 140. Throughout the victory, "Lil Nog" displayed much of the same ferocity that earned him a seven-fight win streak prior to meeting Bader.
In addition to the main event, UFC officials confirmed a bantamweight match-up between Brad Pickett (20-6) and Damacio Page (12-6). Both men recently suffered a first-round loss in their UFC debut.
UFC on Fuel TV 2 takes place April 14th, 2012 at the Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden.
