Bellator Fighting Championships held official weigh-ins for Bellator 49 in New Jersey on Friday afternoon. Seven of the eight participants slated for the main card's welterweight tournament tipped the scales under the required weight of 170 pounds (with a one pound allowance). Douglas Lima missed the mark by a quarter-pound and has been given an additional two hours to drop the weight.
Likewise, nine of the ten fighters that line the card's preliminary bouts made weight, with the sole exception being Alexandre "Popo" Bezerra. The rising Brazilian prospect tipped in one pound over weight and was given an extra two hours to meet featherweight requirements.
Bellator 49 is slated for September 10th at Caesars Atlantic City in New Jersey. The event debuts Bellator's fifth season and is headlined by a quartet of quarterfinal fights tied to the promotion's welterweight tournament.
