"Former UFC heavyweight contender Jeff Monson announced on Twitter that he would be Fedor Emelianenko's next opponent. While M-1 spokesman Evgeni Kogan wouldn't comment on Monson's revelation, he did say we could expect to hear more about Fedor's future soon.

Monson, who challenged Tim Sylvia for the UFC title in 2006 is best known for his bevy of tattoos and militant anarchism. In 2009 he pleaded guilty to malicious mischief after being accused of painting an anarchist logo on the Washington State Capitol. Monson was charged after a picture of the fighter defacing the capitol building appeared in ESPN: The Magazine.

For long time fans, the announcement has the distinct feel of deja vu. Monson was expected to fight Emelianenko in 2007, before an injury forced him to drop out of the contest. The 40 year old Monson had won eight straight fights on regional shows before falling to Strikeforce prospect Daniel Cormier in June. He has a career record of 42-12, including 26 wins by submission."
