ESPN's Brett Okamoto so far has the earliest details on the nature of former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem's UFC contract. First, and perhaps most interestingly, Overeem was offered the winner of Cain Velasquez vs. Junior dos Santos (UFC on Fox), but declined:
Per my talks with Overeem and Lorenzo: #UFC offered title fight against Cain/JDS winner. Overeem didn't want to wait that long.
In addition the contract being described as 'long term', Overeem states the dispute between Golden Glory and the UFC will be 'resolved':
Overeem on other Golden Glory member contracts: That was a dispute. I'm sure talks are going on with them now as well. It will be resolved."
Lorenzo Fertitta also tells Lance Pugmire Overeem will not be kickboxing any time soon, in some many words:
Lorenzo Fertitta, according to Lance Pugmire, said Overeem is "the exclusive property of the UFC" meaning no kickboxing or exceptions.
