Any excitement towards a potential bout between Lyoto Machida and Phil Davis is now dampened. According to UFC President Dana White, the planned matchup was announced prematurely and is unlikely to happen. White explained with this tweet Tuesday afternoon.
White first announced the bout to MMA Weekly following the UFC 139 press conference, however reports slowly leaked out that representation from both fighters had yet to be informed of the news. He later rectified his mistake, explaining that Davis' camp is still solely focused on rehabilitating the 27-year-old from a crippling knee injury suffered in July.
No official statement has been released from either side as of this point. MMA Nation will continue to update the story as it develops.
