Takeya Mizugaki Batters Cole Escovedo At UFC 135

Takeya Mizugaki (15-6-2, 2-1 UFC) used sharp combinations of inside hooks, uppercuts and body shots to beat up Cole Escovedo (17-8, 0-2 UFC) in bantamweight action at UFC 135. The only bantamweights on the UFC 135 card, Mizuegaki and Escovedo certainly maintained the division's reputation for fast-paced, action packed fights.

UFC 135 results: Takeya Mizugaki defeats Cole Escovedo via TKO (strikes) at 4:30 of round 2.

Escovedo, a lanky 135 pounder known for his guard play tried a flying guard triangle attempt at one point and aggressively forced the Thai plum. Turns out that's not an effective strategy against Mizugaki, who responded by working over Escovedo with a bludgeoning all-over body massage. The more Mizugaki battered him from the clinch, the more desperately Escovedo held onto the clinch.

That didn't turn out well for Escovedo as the cumulative toll caught up with him and pulled him to the ground in the second round. Once Cole was stunned, the Japanese fighter went for the kill.

After the fight Mizugaki told Rogan he respected Escovedo's guard and was very wary of Cole's attempts to force the fight into that position. "I finally was able to score a KO in the Octagon and show the American fans what I'm made of," Mizugaki said. "I finally was able to score a KO in the Octagon and show the American fans what I'm made of," he added.

"I really needed this win," an emotional Mizugaki said before adding that he's ready for whoever the UFC wants him to face, "If there's an offer from the UFC, I'll take it."
