UFC 135 Results: Takeya Mizugaki Overwhelms Cole Escovedo In Round Two

The second fight of the night for UFC 135 is a bantamweight contest, Takeya Mizugaki vs. Cole Escovedo, streamed live on Facebook. Mizugaki (14-6-2) last fought at UFC 132, dropping a unanimous decision to former WEC champion Brian Bowles. Similarly, Escovedo (17-7) enters the Octagon for the first time since losing to Renan Barao at UFC 130. The referee is charge of the action is Adam Martinez.

ROUND 1 - Mizugaki changes levels and grazes Escovedo with a left hook. Mizugaki charges into the clinch and briefly exchanges before releasing to the center of the cage. Escovedo pushes forward with a jab. Mizugaki eats a knee as he presses Escovedo into cage but the fans are growing restless at the slow pace. Mizugaki trips Escovedo into half guard before "The Apache Kid" escapes and stands back up. Escovedo jumps onto Mizugaki and tries to climb for the standing triangle but the Japanese veteran shakes him off. Mizugaki lands a solid one-two combination and Escovedo pushes forward with a Thai clinch. Escovedo lands a huge elbow inside the clinch and Mizugaki looks wobbly. Thirty seconds left. Escovedo remains patient as Mizugaki charges forward landing a flush combination before the horn sounds.

ROUND 2 - Mizugaki catches a kick and throws Escovedo to the ground. The action stands back up and both men seem wary of making the first move. Mizugaki misses with a left hand and Escovedo counters with a body shot. "The Apache Kid" throws a head kick that almost lands flush as Mizugaki pushes forward. The Japanese veteran lands a beautiful combination and staggers Escovedo. Mizugaki maintains his distance before landing another big shot that floors Escovedo, yet he refuses to follow him to the ground. Escovedo stands and lures Mizugaki into the clinch but eats a series of brutal combinations. Mizugaki frees himself and lands a big left hook flush against the cage. Escovedo drops and Mizugaki swarms before Martinez can pull him off.
