Mark Scanlon has been scratched from a bout against James Head (7-2) at UFC 138 due to an undisclosed injury suffered in training. Cage Rage UK and OMMAC welterweight champion John Maguire (16-3) has been tabbed as a replacement. According to Maguire's management, the Octagon newcomer signed a four-fight deal with the organization. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Maguire confirmed the news on Friday afternoon with this tweet.
Maguire enters the UFC on a five-fight win streak, capped by a decision victory over Peter Irving to maintain his OMMAC title last week. Known as "The One," the 28-year-old is a 5'9" submission specialist from London, England, training with Tsunami Gym. When asked about the signing, Maguire simply said, "It's about time."
UFC 138 is slated for November 5th at the LG Arena in Birmingham, England. Headlining is a middleweight contest between Chris "The Crippler" Leben and Mark Munoz.
