In the co-main event of tonight's Strikeforce Grand Prix: Barnett vs. Kharitonov, the other half of the semifinal bracket get to work. Heavyweights Daniel Cormier and Antonio Silva meet to decide who faces the winner of Josh Barnett vs. Sergei Kharitonov. At the time of this writing, Silva was a slight favorite (-135) while Cormier the underdog (+135).
In this video, I argue while I have tremendous respect and admiration for Cormier and his abilities, I tend to think he's swimming upstream against Silva. There is an open question regarding Silva's defensive wrestling (his offensive wrestling is quite good), but Cormier seems to prefer body lock takedowns primarily in MMA. He'll have a hard time getting in on Silva's hips and waist. That said, if there's anyone who rises to the occasion, it's Daniel Cormier. I would not be surprised to see him win.
My pick: Silva, but I'll be curious to see how good Cormier looks.
