ProElite Releases Promo For First Event Under New Ownership

New, 2 comments

ProElite is back from the grave after being bought out by a new ownership group led by former ICON owner T. Jay Thompson, former Strikeforce matchmaker Rich Chou, and Paul Feller. Now in preparation for their first big event -- ProElite 1, which will be held later this month -- the marketing push has begun. The promotion released their first trailer over the weekend.

With big plans for an event and no fighters under contract, ProElite began a crusade to stack the card in early June, pilfering the talent pool of its available UFC castoffs. What resulted is an event headlined by two-time UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski, co-headlined by a match of "The Ultimate Fighter Season 3" champion Kendall Grove vs. former UFC welterweight contender Joe Riggs, and a middleweight bout featuring UFC veteran Drew McFedries thrown in for good measure.

Also noteworthy on the event are a pair of MMA debuts. Highlighting the main card, B.J. Penn's younger brother, Reagan Penn, will make his professional debut against welterweight Paul Gardner. Similarly, 2009 NCAA Division I wrestling national champion Mark Ellis will debut against heavyweight Jake Heun.

ProElite 1 is scheduled to be held on August 27th at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.
