Two former UFC heavyweight contenders have been scheduled to headline Warrior One's debut event within the United States. Jeff Monson (42-12) will square off against Gabriel Gonzaga (11-6) at 'W-1: Reloaded' on October 15th at the University of Miami's Bank United Center in Coral Gables, Florida, according to reports from Cagepotato and Free-Fight Fever.
Regarded as one of the busiest men in mixed martial arts, the bout will be the fifth of the year for Monson, who eventually hopes to eclipse his previous record of nine set in 2010. A 40-year-old fighter out of American Top Team, "The Snowman" is best remembered for his failed, five-round challenge to Tim Sylvia's heavyweight belt at UFC 65. Monson last fought at ‘Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum,' where he snapped a seven fight win-streak by dropping a unanimous decision to Daniel Cormier.
Across the cage, Gonzaga hopes to return to action for the first time since being released by the UFC following a unanimous decision loss to Brendan Schaub last October. The defeat marked the third of the Brazilian's last four bouts inside the Octagon, and fifth since challenging Randy Couture for the UFC heavyweight title.
