Joseph Hyungmin Son, better known by mixed martial arts fans as Joe Son, has been convicted by the state of California of raping and torturing a 20-year-old woman in 1990. Son could face a sentence of 15 years to life in prison.

The alleged crime took place on Christmas Eve in Huntington Beach, California, when the victim was reportedly out walking her dog near her home. Son and an accomplice accosted her at gunpoint, before "repeatedly raping the woman, sexually assaulting her with the gun then releasing her naked with her pants tied around her eyes," (via Huffington Post).

Son escaped charges for 18 years until DNA evidence released in 2008 linked him to the assault.

Of course, Son is one of the more infamous characters from the early days of the UFC. Known as a practitioner of a martial art style of his invention -- Joe Son Do -- the 40-year-old fought just once inside the Octagon, notoriously losing to Keith Hackney after having his groin repeatedly battered over a span of a minute.

Son also appeared in the 1997 movie "Austin Powers," playing a sidekick to the film's chief villain. He faces sentencing for his conviction on September 19th.
