Two noted up-and-comers in the growing bantamweight division are officially primed to make their UFC debut. Joseph Sandoval (6-0) will square off against Walel Watson (8-2) on the undercard of UFC on Versus 6. Promotion officials announced the bout on Thursday.
An undefeated prospect out of Bighead MMA fight camp, Sandoval quickly made a name for himself within the southwestern United States by compiling five decisive wins under the Shark Fights banner. The 25-year-old last fought against Randy Hinds in June, seizing the victory via strikes early in the second round.
Known as "The Gazelle," Watson has ripped through the regional circuit, claiming victory in eight of his last nine bouts. A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist, the 27-year-old has snatched seven of his wins by submission, including three by the rarely seen anaconda choke.
UFC on Versus 6 is scheduled for October 1st at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C., and is headlined by bout between Dominick Cruz and Demetrious Johnson to determine the UFC bantamweight championship. The card is set to air live on Versus.
