Already looking like an entertaining event, UFC 139 just booked another fight guaranteed to bring the fireworks. Welterweight contenders Rick Story (13-4) and Martin Kampmann (17-5) have agreed to meet at the November promotion, according to UFC officials.
"A potential fight of the night has been verbally agreed to," wrote UFC President Dana White on UFC.com. "As Rick ‘The Horror' Story will face Martin ‘The Hitman' Kampmann at UFC 139."
The bout is likely to be slotted on either the main card or the televised prelims. Both men enter on the heels of high-profile losses.
Kampmann, in particular, is dealing with tough times. The 29-year-old Dane is caught in the first extended losing streak of his career after dropping close decisions to Jake Shields and Diego Sanchez, that latter of which won Fight of the Night honors. With eight months off between appearances, Kampmann will look to return to the winning ways that saw him triumph in eight of his first ten bouts inside the Octagon.
He will take on Story, who aims to recover from a stinging disappointment of his own. After compiling a six fight win streak within the UFC -- including a surprising decision victory over former number one contender Thiago Alves -- the 26-year-old southpaw was scheduled to headline UFC on Versus 4 against Nate Marquardt. However, Marquardt was notoriously cut from the organization on the eve of the bout, and Charlie Brenneman was tabbed as a late replacement. With less than a day to prepare, Brenneman dominated Story, defeating the Brave Legion fighter via unanimous decision.
UFC 139 is scheduled for November 19th at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. The event is headlined by a match between Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos to determine the UFC heavyweight champion.
