MMA Nation and USA TODAY, which collaborate each month to compile the most accurate mixed martial arts (MMA) rankings in the world, today released its "MMA Consensus Rankings" for July 2011.

MMA Nation and USA TODAY collect and average rankings from top industry sources to compile the "MMA Consensus Rankings," applying a weighted formula to normalize and distill the various results into one consensus ranking per weight class. All professional fighters from all major promotions -- Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Strikeforce and Bellator, among others -- are considered.
This month, Chris Leben, fresh off a knockout of Wanderlei Silva at UFC 132, and lightweight Melvin Guillard -- winner of five straight fights, including a recent knockout of Shane Roller earlier this month -- were the biggest movers and shakers on the rankings board.
