A welterweight tilt between undefeated contender Tyron Woodley (9-0) and rising prospect Jordan Mein (23-7) has been confirmed for the main card of Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Jardine. Strikeforce officials announced the match-up on Friday.
Woodley, a former NCAA wrestler at Missouri, enters on the heels of his biggest win to date -- a unanimous decision over British slugger Paul Daley in July. Prior to the bout, the 29-year-old racked up six straight victories under the Strikeforce banner, including dominating performances over Tarec Saffiedine and Andre Galvao.
Across the cage, Mein heads into the contest hoping to maintain the success that made him one of Strikeforce's most viable prospects. The 21-year-old stormed his way through a 19-3 run after a slow start to his career, capping the stretch with a six-fight tear over the likes of Evangelista Santos, Marius Zaromskis, Josh Burkman, and Joe Riggs.
Strikeforce: Rockhold vs Jardine takes place on January 7th at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Luke Rockhold defends his Strikeforce middleweight title against Keith Jardine in the night's main event.
