UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre has suffered a blown ACL and will be out for 10 months. He'll be forced to miss his UFC 143 title bout with Nick Diaz on February 4, 2012 in Las Vegas. Ex-Strikeforce champ Diaz will instead face former WEC champ Carlos Condit for the interim title. UFC President Dana White tweeted the bad news only minutes ago:
GSP managed to disappoint both Diaz and Condit at UFC 137 when he suffered injuries that kept him out of a scheduled fight with Condit that had originally been promised to Diaz. Diaz fought B.J. Penn in a replacement headliner and Condit sat out the event.
This is yet another major pay-per-view to have its commercial prospects seriously damaged by the injury bug that has plagued the UFC for at least two years. More than half-a-dozen major money makers have been cancelled or delayed due to injuries, failed drug tests and bad behavior on the part of fighters in that span.
