Above is the audio of Thursday's media call to promote UFC 140. Present on the call is UFC light heavyweight champion Jon "Bones" Jones and former light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida. Former heavyweight champions Frank Mir and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira are also present, as is Tito Ortiz.
The focus of the call was mainly on Jones and his burgeoning status as a star of the sport, but the young champion appeared to take it in stride. "I think it's important to always be yourself and always put your best foot forward," the 24-year-old said. "Let the fans know us. Let the mainstream know us.
"It's nuts. We're really starting to catch up to the NBA and NFL."
Speaking through a translator, Machida remained focus on his goal, explaining that he tapped the services of UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal to emulate Jones' unique style in training. "I learned a lot from winning the title and losing it to Rampage [Jackson]," he promised. "I'm a completely different fighter now."
UFC 140 will be held on December 10th at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Canada. For a complete rundown of the card, visit MMA Nation's UFC 140 fight card StoryStream.
