Renan Barao will bring home a bit of extra cash after his coming-out party at UFC 138. Following the conclusion of Saturday's event in Birmingham, England, UFC President Dana White declared Barao and fellow bantamweight co-headliner Brad Pickett winners of "Fight of the Night". Each man will reportedly receive an additional $70,000 bonus for their performance.
"It was a very hard training camp," Barao gleefully announced after his stunning first-round submission victory. "We did our best. I trained in all areas. I feel very complete, but I have a lot [of room] to grow."
Also leaving the LG Arena with an extra $70,000 lining their pockets are English countrymen Che Mills and Terry Etim, winners of "Knockout of the Night" and "Submission of the Night" awards respectively.
Mills' bonus was never in question after the veteran welterweight crushed Chris Cope with a brutal pair of knees in just 40 seconds to cap an impressive UFC debut.
"That's what I do," a visibly overwhelmed Mills said. "I feel great. I'm not far from home. I don't even know what to say."
Meanwhile, it took even less time for Etim to shake off the ring rust after a 19-month layoff from the Octagon. The 25-year-old bombarded the overmatched Eddie Faaloloto early, submitting his opponent via guillotine choke in just 17 seconds.
"I'm back now, I'm 100 percent, and I'm ready to make an impact in the division," Etim declared.
