MMA Nation Round-Up provides you with daily coverage of the latest in news, multimedia, and analysis throughout the world of combat sports. Today we take a holiday look around the UFC, as Jason Miller, Jon Fitch, Miguel Torres, and Joe Lauzon share their latest misadventures. Plus, a behind the scenes look at the side of Wanderlei Silva you've never seen before.
- Jon Fitch isn't the most popular UFC fighter. Despite possessing an almost unparalleled Octagon record, Fitch remains a near-pariah of the sport because of his grind-out style. But he's fine with that: "I go out there and I bust my ass and I win fights in a professional sport. If it wasn't about winning they wouldn't pay us more for winning. I'm just doing what I do best, I win fights."
- In the immediate aftermath of UFC 139, countless MMA fans claimed that Mauricio "Shogun" Rua vs. Dan Henderson was the greatest fight they've ever seen. Count B.J. Penn among that group.
- Rick Story appeared on his way to defeating Martin Kampann before losing the final two rounds at UFC 139. However, at that point Story may have been battling more than his opponent.
- Speaking of Rick Story, Mike Pierce stopped by Joe Show Radio and unloaded a doozy of a story. See what had Tim Burke saying, "I considered myself a big Rick Story fan up until I heard this. I'm reconsidering that right now."
- Apparently Jeff Monson broke his leg over the weekend whilst checking a Fedor Emelianenko kick. Perhaps we really are seeing the "new Fedor".
- The inaugural issue of Matwork! has been released. Catch up on the recent happenings in the world of grappling, be it sambo, judo, Brazilian jiu jitsu, submission grappling and/or collegiate and freestyle wrestling.
- With both men back in the win column, Martin Kampmann and Thiago Alves appear to be on a collision course for 2012.
- Miguel Torres stopped by to let you know about his Thanksgiving plans.
- In dispatching Julia Budd with yet another less-than-60-second armbar, Ronda Rousey positioned herself as one of the rising contenders to Miesha Tate's 135-pound throne. Josh Nason explains why the bout needs to happen sooner, rather than later: "Women's MMA needs any help it can get to sustain itself and draw interest when it has the opportunity to do so."
- It's quite possible that Wanderlei Silva's brutal knockout of Cung Le was the most important win of his career. In one fell swoop the legend regained relevance while staving off increasingly loud calls for retirement. Afterward, Silva was unbelievably candid, shedding a tear as he thanked fans for their support.
- Phil Davis is finally recovered from injury and ready to jump back into the 205-pound fray. What match-up would he like to get? How about his ill-fated UFC 133 headliner against Rashad Evans. Said Davis: "That may be a fight that makes sense."
- In the middle of winter, Joe Lauzon found himself learning a valuable lesson.
- Former UFC middleweight Maiquel Falcao suffered a heart attack in training earlier this week, but fortunately seems to be doing alright. Said his manager: "He's lucid and improving fast."
- Fresh off a return to relevance, Fedor Emelianenko is once again being shopped to the UFC by M-1 Global Director of Operations Evengi Kogan. Though, Dana White isn't exactly onboard.
- "Mayhem" Miller dropped by to talk about "taking Michael Bisping's soul" before getting punched in the groin.
- Tryouts for "The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil" are set to begin soon. See which two weight classes the UFC is looking at.
- Finally, we'll leave you with Tom Lawlor's special Thanksgiving turkey surprise. Happy holidays everybody! (via @UFC)
