UFC On Fox 2 Fight Card: Eddie Wineland Vs. Demetrious Johnson Targeted For Chicago

UFC on Fox 2 has it's first match-up. According to reports from MMA Weekly, perennial bantamweight contenders Eddie Wineland (18-8-1) and Demetrious Johnson (9-2) have been tapped for the primtetime event.

The contest has yet to be finalized, though verbal agreements are said to be in place. It's unclear whether it will be part of the two-hour network broadcast.

Wineland, the former WEC bantamweight champion, heads into the bout on uncertain ground after dropping two straight decisions to top-five opponents Urijah Faber and Joseph Benavidez. Before his recent slump, the 27-year-old regained footing in the 135-pound division with a four-fight win streak, including two "Knockout of the Night" victories against Ken Stone and Will Campuzano.

Meanwhile, Johnson enters fresh from his own setback -- a frustrating five-round unanimous decision loss to UFC bantamweight titleholder Dominick Cruz in October. Before he was stifled by the champion's awkward style, "Mighty Mouse" rattled off four straight wins over impressive competition, including decision victories over former WEC kingpin Miguel Torres and Japanese superstar Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto.

UFC on Fox 2 takes places January 28, 2012 at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. MMA Nation will continue to update the fight card as it is announced.
