UFC 136 Results: Demian Maia Controls Jorge Santiago En Route To Decision Victory

The sixth fight of the night and airing on Spike TV at UFC 136 is Jorge Santiago vs. Demian Maia. This is a middleweight bout, meaning 185 pounds. The referee in charge of the action is Jacob Montalvo.

ROUND 1 - Maia standing southpaw, Santiago is orthodox. Both fighters exchange kicks at a distance, but not much to them. Maia gets an outside trip takedown from the left side, so now Santiago is working from half guard. Butterfly guard from Maia not properly secured allows Santiago to push off and stand. Santiago drives forward, but eats a right hand and again gets tripped to Maia's left, but with time with a body lock. Maia working on top from Santiago's full guard.

ROUND 2 - Santiago opens with a pair of head kicks, both blocked. Both fighters exchange punches in the center, neither getting particularly much from it. Right hook from Santiago finds the mark. Maia runs the pipe on a single and puts Santiago on the floor. Maia hunting for the pass, but having a hard time finding it. Santiago tries to create space with his legs, but Maia hangs on.

ROUND 3 - Santiago opens the frame with an inside leg kick. Santiago stuffs a shot, is temporarily reversed to the ground, but stands up. Maia attempts a single, but Santiago shucks it off. Maia attempts a shot, Santiago reverses but Maia uses it to get behind Santiago. Maia finally drags Santiago to the floor  and now works from Santiago's half guard. Maia passes to side. Now moves to north-south. And all the way to the other side. Maia attempts full guard, but Santiago prevents it and captures butterfly guard.
