At the Khan vs. Peterson presser in Washington, DC yesterday I had the opportunity to very briefly speak with Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer about the UFC's first show on Fox going (sort of) head-to-head with Manny Pacquiao's rubber match with Juan Manuel Marquez on November 12.
Schaefer is effusive with praise for the UFC and UFC President Dana White. More interestingly, Schaefer said he'd be watching both the Cain Velasquez vs. Junior dos Santos bout for UFC on Fox 1 as well as the major boxing card. He adamantly asserted the night is a win-win for fans of contact sports and given the divergent fanbases, there's no real way for the UFC to undercut boxing's big fight or vice versa.
White has historically had a good relationship with Oscar De La Hoya and his Golden Boy Promotions, which could in part explain the answer. Or he could be simply truthful. Then again, Schaefer also told the audience that after the Maidana fight, it's arguable Amir Khan has the best chin in boxing. So, there's that. Hysterical, right?
