Dana White Says UFC 136's Chael Sonnen Vs. Brian Stann Winner Is Number One Contender

After the UFC 136 press conference, UFC President Dana White spoke privately with the press in attendance. One of the key topics that was discussed was the fight between Brian Stann and Chael Sonnen. With no clear contender for the UFC middleweight belt, Dana White told the press that no matter the outcome, the victor would be rewarded with a shot against UFC champion Anderson Silva. "How could you feel that if Sonnen wins, he deserves a shot at the title but if not Stann doesn't?", White said. "Stann's been on a tear and has beat some good guys and has looked good doing it. Leben, Santiago, and now Chael? It would be tough to deny him."

White also gave an update on Anderson Silva's injury. "It's not that he has a serious injury. He has bursitis in his shoulder," said the UFC President. "The doctor told him he needs to rest it for eight weeks and he's doing physical therapy. It's not that he's got some serious injury and needs surgery. As amazing as this guy is, we forget that he's 37 years old. He's been fighting for a long time and has been involved in martial arts his whole life. Bursitis makes sense."
