Following the conclusion of UFC 137 on Saturday night, UFC President Dana White revealed the live gate and attendance from the Las Vegas event. According to White, 10,313 spectators filled into the sold-out Mandalay Bay Event Center, drawing a live gate of $3.9 million.
The Nevada crowd was treated to raucous welterweight main event between former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion B.J Penn and former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz. In a possible fight of the year candidate, the two engaged in a brutal back-and-forth brawl for fifteen minutes, with Diaz emerging as the winner of a lopsided unanimous decision. Afterwards, Penn announced his surprising retirement from mixed martial arts.
"This is probably the last time you'll ever see me here," the emotional former champion said to ringside announcer Joe Rogan. "I've got a daughter, another daughter on the way. I don't want to go home looking like this. I'm done."
