Following the stunning injury to Georges St. Pierre, and subsequent removal of both he and Carlos Condit from the main event of UFC 137, promotion officials have been forced to reshuffle the October card. As a result, an undercard bout between middleweights Brad Tavares (7-1) and Dustin Jacoby (6-0) has been promoted to the main card. The announcement was made early Wednesday morning.
Tavares vs. Jacoby was originally part of the Facebook undercard and set to be streamed live on the popular social media site. Officials haven't indicated an intention of adding a replacement bout to the undercard just a week out from the event.
A popular member of "The Ultimate Fighter 11," Tavares hopes to rebound after suffering his first professional setback at the hands of Aaron Simpson in July. Prior to the unanimous decision loss, the 23-year-old compiled a seven-fight win streak to kick off his career, including UFC wins over Phil Baroni and Seth Baczynski.
Meanwhile, Jacoby looks to make a mark and keep his undefeated record intact with his first foray into the Octagon. The 6'4" former NCAA football player has run roughshod over the competition thus far in his career, finishing all six of his professional fights, with five lasting less than three minutes.
UFC 137 is scheduled for October 29th at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas Nevada. B.J. Penn vs. Nick Diaz is the new main event.
