With Georges St. Pierre already scratched from the main event of UFC 137 after sustaining an abrupt knee injury on Tuesday, Carlos Condit may soon be next. According to reports from ESPN's Josh Gross, the welterweight contender has elected hold onto his title shot and wait for St. Pierre to recover, per manager Malki Kawa. UFC President Dana White confirmed the news with this tweet.
With both Carlos Condit and Georges St. Pierre on the shelf, White stated that the night's intended co-main event -- Nick Diaz vs. B.J. Penn -- has been promoted to the headlining attraction. To maintain fairness, the UFC brass intends to keep the bout as a three-round affair, rather than push the fighters into a standard five-round, non-title main event at the last moment.
UFC 137 will take place Oct. 29 from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas Nevada. MMA Nation will continue to update the situation as more news becomes available.
