Joe Son, UFC 4 Veteran, Under Investigation For Prison Homicide

The ongoing story of Joseph Hyungmin Son hit another tragic turn on Tuesday, as reports indicated that the former mixed martial artist is under investigation in the state of California for the murder of his prison cellmate. According to Cagepotato, Son was found alone next to the deceased 50-year-old inmate -- whose name is currently being withheld  -- at approximately 5:50 p.m. on October 10th.

The Wasco Litigation Department released this press release Tuesday afternoon:

WASCO - Officials from Wasco State Prison-Reception Center (WSP-RC) and the Kern County District Attorney's Office are investigating the death of an inmate as a homicide.

The 50-year-old inmate was received at WSP-RC from San Luis Obispo County on June 23, 2011, as a parole violator with a new term for failure to register as a sex offender. He received a 2-year sentence.

Joseph Son, 40, has been identified as a suspect in the case.

Son, better known to MMA fans as Joe Son, received a sentence of life in prison last month for his role in the 1990 abduction, rape, and torture of a 20-year-old woman. His one time foray into the Octagon at UFC 4 resulted in an infamous loss to Keith Hackney after sustaining an extensive series of groin strikes.
