The Englishman reverses the position and releases to the middle of the Octagon. Browne crushes Broughton's lead leg with kicks before taking him down. Thirty seconds remain in the round as Browne begins to rain down hammerfists. Broughton survives.

Broughton holds onto Browne to recover and Rosenthal warns the fighters to work. Browne scrambles and briefly takes his back before transitioning to full mount, but is unable to mount any attack. 90 seconds remain in the fight and the crowd is growing restless at the slowed pace. Broughton sweeps and looks for a kimura. He almost has it. Browne rolls, escapes, and takes the Englishman's back against the cage. Broughton works his way to the feet as the horn sounds. Browne appears to be exhausted as he leans against the cage.
