Rashad Evans Knees Tito Ortiz At UFC 133

Rashad Evans risked his title shot but came through to win, finishing Tito Ortiz in the second round at UFC 133

Ortiz put up a tussle in the first round, but Evans poured it on and hurt him up against the cage with about 1:45 left. Ortiz came out and landed early, hurting Evans. Ortiz went for a single leg but couldn't quite get it. Evans broke free and attacked. Rashad slammed Tito with a minute left and spent the final minute pounding on a game and gritty Tito who covered up for dear life.

In the second, Tito looked battered coming out, swollen and bloodied. Evans looked fresh. Tito threw an ugly looking leg kick. Evans landed a sharp jab. Ortiz charged forward behind some pushed punches. Evans landed a sharp hook. Evans punched his way in and Ortiz latched on a tight guillotine choke but Evans pulled free. Ortiz ended up in half guard. Evans passed to side control. Evans got into position to whale away at Ortiz' head at about 2:30 left. Tito tried to fight free and got himself in the crucifix mount. Evans fired away with elbows. Ortiz tried to roll out but Evans stayed on top and continued to fire punches. After a scramble, Ortiz tried for a heel hook, but Evans spun free. Ortiz tried to scramble free and caughte huge knee to the body the dropped him. Ref Dan Miragliotta stepped in to stop the fight at 4:28 of the second round.

Vitor Belfort Smashes Yoshihiro Akiyama At UFC 133

Akiyama came out and took center cage. He landed the first leg kick but Belfort fired with a high kick to the head. Akiyama fired a front kick just like the one Anderson Silva used to beat Belfort at UFC 126. Belfort pounced and finished Akiyama with a blitzkreig of punches against the cage.

Vitor Belfort defeated Yoshihiro Akiyama by KO at 1:52 of the first round.

Belfort who won his first UFC fights in a four man tournament at UFC 12 in 1997, blasted Akiyama with the same flair he destroyed his opponents back in the day. Belfort thanked Jesus for everything.

After the fight Belfort said, "I want the winner of Anderson Silva. If he hadn't landed that kick, that's what would have happened to him."

Mickey Rourke and Bernard Hopkins watched the fight from cage side at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Belfort gave a shout out to Brazilian fans and expressed his anticipation of the UFC's return to Brazil at UFC 134.

Brian Ebersole Blasts Dennis Hallman At UFC 133

Two MMA veterans with about a hundred figths between them came out and put on an ugly show on the UFC 133 pay-per-view card. Dennis Hallman came out in the smallest possible pair of shorts in a blatant act of one-upsmanship to out do Brian Ebersole's "hai-rrow" shaved onto his chest. 

UFC 133 Results: Brian Ebersole defeated Dennis Hallman via TKO at 4:28 of round one. 

Hallman jumped out and jumped on Ebersole. He took his back and attacked for the rear naked choke. He locked on a body triangle but Ebersole rolled into the lock. Ebersole managed to roll Hallman onto his back and fire annoying strikes to the face. That kept Hallman from being able to focus on the submission. Hallman nearly rolled into the mount. Hallman locked on a guillotine but Ebersole slipped away. Fans got to see a lot of Hallman's ass due to the unfortunate shorts. Ebersole got free and landed some shots from the top. Hard elbows to the head.Then another huge one. Hallman was hurt and Ebersole continued the assault. Hallman got full guard but Ebersole continued to bomb away until the referee stepped in.

Constantinos Philippou Takes Split Decision Over Jorge Rivera At UFC 133

Constantinos Philippou wasn't happy with the performance against Jorge Rivera at UFC 133 in the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania but it was good enough for 2/3 judges to give him the win. 

The middleweights, both known for their striking games, spent most of the first round clinching against the fence. They also clinched on the ground a little bit. Pilippou landed several shots to the face as Rivera fought to stand up. With about a minute and a half left they separated and began to strike. Rivera hurt Philippou with a combination. Philippou hurt Rivera with an uppercut.

Rivera scored first with a pair of hooks to open the second. bot hmen missed until Philippou dropped Rivera with about 4:30 left. Rivera survived a blitz and managed to sweep Philppou with four minutes left. Rivera landed a combination as Philippou tried to stand. Rivera worked for a front choke but Philippou stood up. They separated and traded shots. The ref Mario Yamasaki had to restart it with about 2 minutes left but they quickly clinched again. Rivera got a beautiful trip. Philippou quickly latched on an omaplata but he took a long time to sit up for the sweep. Announcer Joe Rogan screamed with frustration as Philippou failed to finish the submission. Philippou rolled him finally and got in Rivera's half-guard. 

Philippou hurt Rivera with a pair of uppercuts but Rivera answered with a hard knee as the final round opened. Rivera hurt him with a right hand and Philippou answered in kind. They clinched up. Break. Big swinging misses from both men before Philippou took Rivera down. Rivera got guard. Rivera tried for a triangle but Philippou postured up. Rivera stood wit 3 minutes left. Philippou landed a knee. Yamasaki separated them with 2:20 left. Philippou with anothe knee. Rivera locked on a front headlock to pull Philippou down. Landed a knee to the body of a downed Philippou. Rivera landed to the face of Philippou. Philippou's  leg got trapped in the seam of the cage which prevented Rivera from taking him down. They were in the center of the cage in the final seconds trading blows before Rivera pulled Philippou down on top of him to end the fight.

Rory MacDonald Smears Mike Pyle At UFC 133

Rory MacDonald, a 22 year old MMA prodigy, crushed the veteran gatekeeper Mike Pyle in the first round at UFC 133. Pyle came out to the Rocky theme song to win over the Philly crowd at the Wells Fargo City, but it wasn't enough.

MacDonald caught an early kick and landed a straight right hand that dropped Pyle. Pyle popped back up quickly seemingly unhurt. Pyle shot in and got a take down. MacDonald  worked for a guillotine choke on the way down. MacDonald worked for a butterfly sweep but Pyle stayed on top. MacdDonald got back up later near the cage and hurt Pyle with a series of uppercuts. Seconds later he drove Pyle across the cage and dropped him with more uppercuts. Pyle ate leg kicks from a standing MacDonald while on his back then MacDonald settled into Pyle's guard and hurt Pyle badly. 

MacDonald poured it on and stopped Mike Pyle.

Alexander Gustafsson Demolishes Matt Hamill At UFC 133

Alexander Gustafsson took a little while to wear Matt Hamill down but he put it to a definitive finish at UFC 133. Philadelphia fans tried to support Hamill to no avail as the lanky Swede hurt Hamill with uppercuts at will. Gustafsson poured it on when it counted and finished Hamill late in the second round. 

Hamill promised to jab Gustafsson and he did early. Unfortunately he ate a couple of uppercuts that stunned him. Hamill continued to control the cage center, but Gustafsson was able to outscore him while circling away. The crowd briefly chanted U-S-A U-S-A to no avail to the deaf Hamill. Hamill looked tired by the end of the first round and began to lunge for desultory take downs. Gustafsson bombed away although he ate a sharp shot (left hook) and got cut over the right eye.

 Hamill came out and forced a clinch early but Gustafsson landed several shots on the break and made Hamill cover up. Gustafsson worked the uppercut to repeated success. Hamill tried a take down that got no where. Gustafsson bombed away with uppercuts when they closed distance. Gustafsson ate something that broke his nose. Gustafsson hurt him with a little less than a minute left. Gustafsson pounced, dropped him with the follow up shots, followed him down, got mount and finished Hamill.

Chad Mendes Dominates Rani Yahya At UFC 133

Chad Mendes, the #2 featherweight in the world, kept busy by dominating Rani Yahya to a unanimous decision. Yahya, one of the world's best grapplers, wasn't able to put Mendes down, took a beating on the feet and then on the ground.  Mendes looked utterly dominant and outclassed Yahya in every aspect of the game. 

Yahya urgently needed to put Mendes on his back but wasn't able to come close to out-wrestling Mendes on the feet or getting the sweep from his back. Mendes landed many a hard punch to the face and slammed Yahya to the ground on several occasions. 

UFC 133 results: Mendes defeats Yahya via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Yahya for all his vaunted reputation on the ground, was unable to do anything other than eating elbows on the ground. At one point he seemed to briefly threaten with a submission hold, but Mendes escaped unharmed. Mendes is due a title shot against UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo.

Ivan Menjivar Gifted With Decision Over Nick Pace At UFC 133

Ivan Menjivar spent the last minute of the fight running from Nick Pace at UFC 133, but the judges liked what they saw and awarded him a unanimous decision. 

Pace stunned Menjivar early in the first and followed up with a take down. He spent most of the round on top of Menjivar. Pace took his back and attacked the throat. At one point he came really close to a rear naked choke but couldn't get his locked arms under the veteran Menjivar's chin.

In the second Menjivar battered Pace with a variety of strikes. Pace came back and got a take down late in the round but probably didnt do enough to overcome the three minute beating he took. Menjivar worked the body to good effect. 

Menjivar opened the third with a crescent kick. Pace shot a take down but Menjivar stuffed it and landed a hard right over the top. Pace landed a hard knee to the face of Menjivar that hurt him with a minute left. He poured it on but the veteran Menjivar retreated with his left eye shut and swollen.

Johny Hendricks Takes A Split Decision From Mike Pierce At UFC 133

Last time welterweight Johny Hendricks faced a tough wrestle-boxer like himself he lost a decision. This time he got past the game Mike Pierce with a split decision. 

Hendricks came out and showed a more sophisticated striking approach and outscored Pierce striking in the first round. He quickly took the Thai plum and landed a hard knee to the face. He salted those knees with uppercuts and jabs. Pierce's face showed knots from Hendricks' handiwork by the end of the round.

Pierce seemed to have an advantage in mass and power when it came to wrestling, stuffing a number of Hendricks' shots. Hendricks landed more knees in the second round but Pierce landed some big punches, mostly hooks. Hendricks came back late in the round and there were some slick wrestling exchanges.

Pierce slammed Hendricks with about 2:30 left in the fight. Hendricks landed an illegal upkick and Yamasaki stopped the action. He came out after the restart and landed a hard knee from the plum. Pierce answered with some mean uppercuts. Hendricks pulled a slick spin move to shoot for a single. Pierce probably won that last round but he didn't get the finish his corner asked for and let the fight slip away.

Nam Phan Loses Decision To Mike Brown At UFC 133

Featherweights Nam Phan and Mike Brown brought it at UFC 133 for three long rounds but neither was able to finish. Nam Phan, fresh off getting utterly hosed by the judges in his last fight had to be dreading the decision. Sure enough the judges unanimously went against him.

Brown came out hard in the first round, took Phan down and beat on him for about three minutes. Hard punches then elbows to the head ensued and lasted the rest of the round. In the second and third they traded hard hooks and punches with a sprinkling of take downs. Phan could make a strong case that he won the second and third rounds, but Brown clearly won the fight as nothing Phan did matched the beating Brown gave out in the first round.

UFC 133 results: Mike Brown defeats Nam Phan via unanimous decision (29-28x2, 29-27)

Former WEC featherweight champ Brown came into the fight desperate for a win after beginning his UFC career 0-2. Phan came in following being on the wrong end of one of the worse judge's decision in UFC history against Leonard Garcia

Rafael 'Sapo' Natal Slips Past Paul Bradley At UFC 133

It wasn't the prettiest fight in UFC history, but middleweights Rafael "Sapo" Natal and Paul Bradley gave it their all. The judges liked what they saw from Sapo more and awarded him a unanimous decision. Natal managed to fend off most of Bradley's single leg take down attempts, kicked his lead leg until Bradley's left thigh was an enormous swollen red welt and got back up quickly when Bradley did manage to take him down. 

Official Result: Rafael Natal beats Paul Bradley by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, and 29-28)

Bradley was a short-notice substitute who stepped in just last week when Constantinos Philippou got the call to move up to the main card and face Jorge Rivera. Philippou was actually the second opponent Natal was set to face. Originally Riki Fukuda was to fight, but he got hurt in a car wreck and had to bow out. 

Bradley made his UFC debut after getting booted off The Ultimate Fighter a few years back for having a nasty skin rash that turned out to be herpes and got him kicked off the show.
