Brock Lesnar retired from the UFC following his loss to Alistair Overeem at UFC 141.

Dec 30, 2011 - Brock Lesnar announced his retirement from the UFC following his first round loss to Alistair Overeem at UFC 141: Lesnar vs. Overeem. Mixed martial arts was a rocket ride for the charismatic Lesnar. He won the UFC heavyweight title in only his fourth pro fight, defended it twice and then lost his last two bouts before retiring.

"I've had a rough couple of years with my disease. This will be the last time you will see me in the Octagon," Lesnar said to announcer Joe Rogan after the fight. "I want to thank everybody. I want to thank the Fertittas, Dana White. Brock Lesnar is officially retired."

An emotional Lesnar also thanked his wife and family and said that he had promised his family that if he lost he would retire and that if he won, he would fight for the title and then retire. Lesnar was diagnosed with diverticulitis in 2009 and had a foot of his colon surgically removed after a relapse earlier this year.

There was no need to worry about a follow up fight as Lesnar was utterly outmanned by the powerful Overeem. The Dutch kickboxer had an enormous advantage over Lesnar in the striking range and easily fended off Lesnar's take down attempts.

It was Overeem's brutal knees in the clinch and a final kick to the liver that hurt and staggered Lesnar. Overeem followed him down and finished a sitting Lesnar with a savage uppercut to the chin that forced referee Steve Mazzagatti to stop the fight.
