Today is December 10th and beginning at approximately 5:50 p.m. ET, UFC 140: Jones vs. Machida begins from Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario. The event is headlined by a light heavyweight title fight between UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and former champion Lyoto Machida. That bout is scheduled for five, five-minute rounds.
The co-main event is a rematch of former UFC heavyweight champions Frank Mir and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Nogueira's twin brother Antonio Rogerio Nogueira will face Tito Ortiz in a light heavyweight match. Chan Sung Jung, "the Korean Zombie", will face Mark Hominick in featherweight action. The main card is rounded out with a welterweight match between Brian Ebersole and Claude Patrick. The pay-per-view begins at 9 p.m. ET.
The Ion TV card starts at 7 p.m. ET and features a light heavyweight bout between Krzysztof Soszynski and Igor Pokrajac, a bantamweight match between Yves Jabouin and Walel Watson, a middleweight bout pitting Jared Hamman against Constantinos Philippou and a catchweight (158.5lb) bout between John Makdessi and Dennis Hallman, both of whom fight at lightweight normally.
The Facebook card starts at 5:45 p.m. ET and features lightweights Mark Bocek and Nik Lentz, welterweights Rich Attonito and Jake Hecht, and lightweights Mitch Clarke and John Cholish facing off.
MMA Nation has compiled a full list of ways you can watch this event no matter your viewing preference. So, let's breakdown our options based on each portion of the card.
Online
For today's preliminary card, viewing is separated into two sections. The first three bouts will air for free on the UFC's Facebook page. As we stated previously, the card begins at 5:55 p.m. ET. All you have to do is "Like" the UFC's Facebook page and you can watch that portion of the preliminary card for free.
The last four fights of the preliminary card will air for free on Ion TV.
UStream - the free video streaming service - allows users who purchase their pay-per-view via the UStream platform at a cost of $44.99 to watch the pay-per-view portion of the fight card. I can't speak to the quality of the stream itself.
Yahoo! also provides a decent online alternative as well. Go to the dedicated UFC 140 page at Yahoo.com and purchase the pay-per-view.
Lastly, you may also go to UFC.TV to purchase and view this event. The UFC has a dedicated page on how to watch their pay-per-view events.
Mobile
For those who are iPhone or iPad users, you can purchase the event to watch by using the UFC app from the iTunes app store. The app itself is a mere $.99 while the pay-per-view is still $44.99. I have no idea if watching a UFC event on a phone is the best of all options, but the option does exist.
UFC has also launched an Android app courtesy of Neulion, but again, the fight costs the same as it would if you purchased it on your television.
On Pay-Per-View/Television
Whether your cable provider is DirecTV, Comcast, Cox or any other major cable company, you should have the ability to order tonight's fights. If you're not, please list the name of the company in the comments. A comprehensive list of cable providers who carry these events can be found here.
The price for UFC pay-per-view events is generally constant, but I've been told recently of fee hikes by cable providers. For standard definition, you'll typically pay $44.99 while high definition costs $54.99. Others who are non-DirecTV customers say the price of UFC HD pay-per-views have risen to $60.
If you own a Roku set-top box, you can view the pay-per-view portion of the card for UFC events live. I've yet to try this service, but would be curious to hear feedback from those who have tried it.
Beginning at 7 p.m. ET, Ion TV will air at least four scheduled fights from the preliminary card. It is unlikely, but possible that the two fights previously streamed on Facebook will air on the Ion TV broadcast. A guide to Ion TV stations searchable by zip code can be found here.
At A Bar
The UFC provides a comprehensive, searchable database of bars carrying their pay-per-view events. It's organized by geography. Simply go to bars.ufc.com. From there you can enter your zip code to find those bars carrying tonight's fights closest to you. The results will even pull up the bar's number so you can call to ensure they're carrying the event as well as inquire about specials or a cover charge.
Here's the fight card laid out by distribution platform, time and segment:
